We decided to give the scooter another try before ringing the man who rented it to us. After recharging it twice, we set off for Hilversum town centre, with the dog and one bicycle and various contingency plans.

The scooter stopped early on, after the steep kerb at the end of our street, but Chloe got it going again and I whizzed along. Then we stopped in a tunnel, halfway up a hill, outside the Left Luggage Office at the station. H wanted to find out why we hadn’t been able to leave the scooter there on Sunday. Not enough room, apparently. Grrr!

After that, the scooter simply would not go any more. We’d travelled perhaps a kilometre and hadn’t yet reached the centre of town. Presumably people who can’t walk at all have to spend all their money and time on taxis to bail them out of situations where the scooter can’t or won’t go. đŸ˜¦

Chloe pushed the scooter while simultaneouly leading Teesy, I stumped along behind, and Helen cycled off to a dental appointment. We found a cafe (all the cafes here are also pubs) and sat ourselves down with a view of the main street of Hilversum, and marvelled at all the people around on a weekday, and all the people with scooters that went like the clappers. Helen cycled home after the dentist and got the car and came for us.

The scooter man said he would come to us and sort the situation out on Thursday, but that has been amended to Tuesday next week.
